Methods

Pilates

Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that consists of controlled movements that improve flexibility, strength, control and stability in the entire body when practiced mindfully. It was created in the early 1900's by Joseph Pilates and can be practiced on the mat or on equipment and modified for any body to experience it successfully. Breathwork is an essential component to Pilates, and each move has a coordinating breath pattern. It is an

excellent method to use in addressing muscular imbalances and increasing body awareness.

GYROTONIC®

The GYROTONIC® Method was developed by Julio Horvath, a professional dancer who suffered a series of debilitating injuries during his dance career and developed the method as a way to heal himself and regain his strength and agility. Gyrotonic exercises are performed on custom designed Gyrotonic equipment and are composed of spiraling, circular movements with corresponding breathing patterns that allow the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. It is an fantastic compliment to other movement practices (i.e.running, hiking, weight training, Pilates) and an expansive, stimulating, and joyful way to move!

Education

I'm always studying various movement methods to find new tools for myself and for my students. Katy Bowman's Nutritious Movement® approach is one of my biggest influences and I use her work heavily in my teaching. I'm interested in how biomechanics, kinesiology, physiology and natural movement affects our bodies. I can help you figure out what movement habits might be causing you pain, find your most efficient gait pattern and analyze your daily movement diet to see how you can make it more nutritious.
